MONTESSORI PRE-SCHOOL

A Montessori Method
of Pre-School Education

Our Montessori classrooms are designed to foster and inspire the physical, intellectual, creative and social development of each child.

Ardtona House School’s preschool follows the Montessori Method of education and fully aligns with the Aistear Curriculum Framework. Classrooms are equipped with an extensive range of Montessori materials, that the children are guided through by the teacher at a pace that is individual to each child.

The Montessori Philosophy encourages independence and self-directed learning under the close observation of the Montessori teacher. Children are encouraged to ask questions and explore topics that interest them. Our goal is to cultivate the children’s own desire to learn and enable them to reach their full potential.

ECCE SCHEME

Ardtona House School is an approved provider of the Early Childhood Care & Education Scheme, which provides 3 free hours per day of pre-school education for eligible children from the age of 2 years 8months.

The Montessori Curriculum

PRACTICAL LIFE
These exercises include every day activities that children observe in daily life, such as threading, pouring and spooning. The purpose of these exercises is to help children to refine their fine motor skills, improve hand eye coordination and develop both independence and concentration.

SENSORIAL
The sensorial materials help children to refine their senses of sight, touch, sound, smell and taste, so that they are able to organise sensory impressions and their understanding of the world. They develop each of their five senses, as well as learning about shape, colour, dimension and classification.

LANGUAGE
The Montessori language curriculum provides children with the knowledge and skills to build their vocabulary and understanding of language. Our Montessori classrooms are a language rich environment where the children are continuously introduced to new vocabulary and where nursery rhymes, songs and stories are incorporated into the daily routine.

MATHS
The Montessori maths materials are concrete, structured and inspire the child to think logically and to reason in a hands on, enjoyable way. Children learn to identify numbers and quantities and their mathematical mind is further developed through their sense of order, coordination, concentration and independence.

CULTURE
The culture curriculum incorporates a wide range of subjects, including: Geography, Botany, Zoology, Science, History, Music and Art. Through explorations of culture, children develop an understanding of their community and their world.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Garden time is an integral part of our day and the children love getting outside to enjoy our fantastic garden, which has a forest area, mud kitchen and a variety of play equipment.

The children also take part in weekly Stretch-n-Grow classes. These classes are an enrichment program that seeks to get children’s bodies moving with high quality, educational, fun and creative exercise experiences. The children thoroughly enjoy this time and are always delighted to see Jane every Tuesday.

Our specialist drama teacher Liz visits every Friday and the Montessori classes are treated to a fun and engaging class. The children enjoy taking part and the emphasis is on the promotion of expressive language, self esteem and confidence.

‘Free the child’s potential and you will transform them into the world.’
