Welcome to Ardtona House School

We pride ourselves in providing our students with access to the best early years education, with small class sizes where every child’s potential is both recognised and respected in a caring environment.

Our newly renovated classrooms are bright, welcoming and offer a learner-friendly environment. They are fully equipped with an extensive range of educational materials, from Montessori equipment to Clevertouch interactive touchscreens.

Outdoor time is an integral part of our school day and the children love our extensive garden space, complete with forest area, den, mud kitchen and plenty of play equipment to explore and enjoy. Our fantastic garden provides a safe and stimulating playing and learning facility all year round, where our children have a valuable opportunity to learn, play and develop.

Pre-School Montessori & Junior School

Ardtona House School is a private Montessori Pre-School and Primary School in the heart of Churchtown, South Dublin. Since the school was established in 1942, we have been educating boys and girls from pre-school (2yrs 8mths) to 2nd class (9yrs). Our school is a caring community in which children are afforded the opportunity to grow academically, emotionally, physically, creatively and spiritually in a welcoming environment.

We have a strong emphasis on the moral well-being of our children and welcome children of all faith backgrounds and none, as we encourage an appreciation and respect of all beliefs.

Ardtona House School recognises the primary role of parents in the care and education of their children. We adopt a partnership approach with our parents, inviting and welcoming their input and involvement in our school community.

Pre-School

Our pre-school follows the Montessori Method of Education. This is a child centred, personal programme, which integrates all aspects of the child’s development to encourage and inspire learning and independence.

Junior School

The National Primary School Curriculum is greatly enhanced by incorporating the Montessori principles, which foster a love of learning and provides a holistic education to nurture the development of each child.

After School

Our After School Club runs during the school term for children attending our Junior School. During the afternoon, the children are provided with a homemade hot dinner and enjoy lots of activities and outdoor play.

Where Every Child is an Individual.

We strive to develop confident, independent thinkers for the learning that lies ahead.

In our work as educators, we value the importance and individuality of each child and endeavour to inspire and foster each of our student’s development to its full potential. We seek to cultivate a sense of responsibility, respect for others and the environment, as well as encouraging independence, initiative and self-confidence in all our students.

TESTIMONIALS

What Our Parents Say…

“I cannot say enough about the wonderful Ardtona. We returned to Ireland from the US with our twin 5 year old’s who, due to the pandemic, had only been in playschool for a few months before we were shut down. There was a lot of apprehension, we were moving them from their home, friends and starting a new school. We knew we needed a special place to ease into this transition. And boy, did we find it with Ardtona. From our first interaction with Valerie we knew we would love it. Their easygoing, child-first approach is so reassuring. Small classes ensure that the child is able to move at their pace and mine who needed a little extra help as they hadn’t been to ‘real school’ before, were tucked under the wings of the staff and had caught up in no time. My children have gone from being scared and not wanting to go to school to loving it, bounding in each morning. I could not ask for more and couldn’t recommend it highly enough.”

— Aoife

“Quite simply "exceptional"

Ardrona provides a genuinely unique environment where each child is guided to find and develop their own potential and confidence within the classroom and wider environment (aided by many adventures in the fantastic garden). The teachers' skill, commitment and support, benefit both children and parents alike. In seven years attending with two very different children, every school day was a happy experience and we are delighted to have found such a special place.  Both kids and parents are sad when it's time to leave.”

“We have put our three kids through Ardtona from Montessori and we cannot recommend the school highly enough.  The children get a wonderful, caring and personalised environment to learn in and make fantastic friends.  Every teacher there is so engaged and shows a true interest in the child’s development no matter what class.  Our kids still talk about Ardtona all the time and will have the memories of their time there for life.”

— Marguerite

“Our son attended Ardtona House School from Montessori to 1st Class, graduating in 2018 and it was such a fantastic introduction to his educational journey.  The entire staff led by Valerie, were always very kind and had a wonderful way of making Cian love going into school every day.  The extra reading outside of the classroom environment really helped with his vocabulary, ability to read and desire to learn. The outside space and the garden area is such a fantastic addition to the school and he really enjoyed the idea of planting the vegetables and then being able to see them grow and enjoy the fruits of their labour! It was such a wonderful space for them to explore and be stimulated in each day. He made some great friends in the school over the years. Aftercare and availability of daily hot meals was invaluable for busy working parents also. The whole experience for us as a family was wonderful and we would recommend the school without hesitation to anyone. “

— Marion and Gavin Mitchell

Ardtona was the school we needed to find and as parents, we were extremely satisfied with the academic outcome and the well-being of our son. Teachers are not only extremely qualified, they're also very patient and great communicators.

Kobe was also enrolled in the after-school program where he received the care he needed throughout the years and benefited from eating healthy meals daily.

I highly recommend Ardtona to any parent and to multicultural families who will get a great sense of the Irish culture through the eyes of their child.

“All 3 of our children have gone to Ardtona House School and I cannot speak highly enough about the school and its staff! Passionate and dedicated teachers, small class sizes with a big emphasis on independent learning and an amazing location with a very large garden where the children can explore and run around in the fresh air! The early drop-offs in the morning are a huge support. As is the wonderful Afterschool school with a hot meal provided, homework done and then plenty of time to get out in the garden to play!  Happy memories forever for all the family!”
